Child Inclusive Practice
Child-inclusive practice supports separated parents by incorporating their child’s perspective into the mediation process. This approach helps parents understand the impact of separation and conflict from their child’s viewpoint, ensuring that decisions prioritise the child’s emotional and developmental needs while fostering a cooperative parenting relationship. As part of Family Dispute Resolution, child-inclusive practice involves a meeting between the child and a trained child mediator. The mediator, experienced in working with children and young people, gently explores the child’s feelings about their family relationships and the effects of separation. They then provide feedback to parents in a way that helps guide constructive decision-making, always respecting the child’s confidentiality. This process is not a psychological assessment but a means of understanding the child’s experience to better support their growth and well-being during family transitions.
